Employee Type: RegularJob Summary:Acquire surface and coal leases, fee surface and coal properties, easements and other required property rights necessary for mining operations to be conducted without delays caused by the lack of rights or authority necessary for mining. Perform all necessary work to properly maintain existing and future surface and coal leases.Job Description:Essential Duties:Negotiate for the acquisition of surface and coal leases, fee surface and coal properties, easements, and other agreements, and draft required documents, at operations owned by the Company and its subsidiaries and affiliates, as directed by ManagementConduct title curative activities and draft documents required in curing titles to propertiesPrepare and update detailed surface and coal ownership title chains through courthouse and online title searchesUpdate records to reflect ownership and address changes and conduct all other lease and permit maintenance requirements, as requestedDrive a passenger vehicle to landowner residences and county records locations and conduct independent meetings with residents and county officials. Maintain a good driving record and valid driver's licenseOther Duties:Work closely with Land Office staff to make sure Land Office records are timely updated and all lease maintenance obligations are metOther functions and duties as assigned by Company managementDevelop and maintain a good communicative and cooperative relationship with mine site managers and staff, especially landowner relations specialists and environmental staffKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and negotiating skillsKnowledge of real property law, real estate appraisals, and mineral leasing practices, preferably coal leasingSkilled in the use of personal computers (word processing, spreadsheet, and electronic mail applications)Education and Training:Bachelor's degree and at least three years of directly related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience. Juris doctor degree or other extensive legal education and training a strong plus.
