CHI St. Alexius Health is a regional health network with a tertiary hospital in Bismarck, the system also consists of critical access hospitals (CAHs) in Carrington, Dickinson, Devils Lake, Garrison, Turtle Lake, Washburn and Williston and numerous clinics and outpatient services.  CHI St. Alexius Health manages four CAHs in North Dakota - Elgin, Linton, and Wishek, as well as Mobridge Regional Medical Center in Mobridge, S.D. CHI St. Alexius Health offers a comprehensive line of inpatient and outpatient medical services, including: a Level II Trauma Center, primary and specialty physician clinics, home health and hospice services, durable medical equipment services, a fitness and human performance center and ancillary services throughout western and central North Dakota.

Responsibilities

Works under the supervsion of the Market Director, Human Resources to administer the benefit programs at CHI St. Alexius Health.  Works with CommonSpirit National Benefits to ensure that benefit programs and services align with those of CommonSpirit Health wherever possible.  Coordinates and implements the benefits programs of St. Alexius Health by managing benefits program through third party administrators as necessary.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Works with CommonSpirit National Benefits to manage all organization-wide benefits programs for St. Alexius Health including but not limited to Health, Dental, Heath Savings Accounts, Vision, Flexible Spending Accounts, Wellness Programs, Voluntary Benefits, Life Insurance, Long and Short Term Disability plans, Paid Time Off, Retirement, Tuition Assistance, Adoption Assistance, Employee Assistance and Employee Discount Programs.
  2. Manages open enrollment for St. Alexius each year by coordinating with TPA’s (Third Party Administrators) and CommonSpirit Health National Benefits team. Communicates and promotes the open enrollment process and the various benefits options with St. Alexius employees to ensure understanding of the comprehensive benefits packages offered each year.  Encourages participation in the annual process each year by qualified employees.  Accurately enrolls participants.  Provides education sessions to employees as necessary.
  3. Coordinates with HR colleagues to ensure that new employees are enrolled in their benefits timely and accurately.
  4. Maintains accurate plan documents for the various employer group insurance and benefits programs and prepares appropriate communications to employees as required. Keeps informed regarding local, state, and federal laws around benefits regulations to ensure compliance.  Provides education opportunities regarding various benefit offerings as needed. 
  5. Administers miscellaneous St. Alexius Health Medical Center benefits accurately and effectively including but not limited to: Leave of Absence programs including FMLA; Tuition Reimbursement; COBRA; Employee Assistance Program; and Vacation Donation program.  Monitors competitiveness of all benefits, researches potential benefits options, and recommends and implements enhancements as appropriate. Works with Division and National Benefits to align benefits offerings with CommonSpirit Health as appropriate. 
  6. Manages the organization’s retirement programs including the 403b and 457b. Works with the TPA to ensure Summary Plan Documents are up to date. Coordinates and chairs the St. Alexius Health Investment Committee.  Works with outside agencies to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and performs required audits.
  7. Ensures fiscal responsibility by ensuring assigned benefit program expenses are managed within budget. Appropriately monitors competitiveness and cost effectiveness of benefits plans, recommends and implements benefit plan enhancements as approved, runs reports, and provides analytics as requested by CommonSpirit Health.

Qualifications

Required Education for Staff Job Levels

BS in Business Administration, Human Resources,  or related field

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Five years prior experience working in the Human Resources field with benefits administration, Human Resources procedures and regulations, concepts, practices, and legal compliance issues regarding benefits administration.  Strong computer skills and experience with various HRIS systems.  Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with benefits providers, employees, and management.
