CHI St. Alexius Health is a regional health network with a tertiary hospital in Bismarck, the system also consists of critical access hospitals (CAHs) in Carrington, Dickinson, Devils Lake, Garrison, Turtle Lake, Washburn and Williston and numerous clinics and outpatient services.  CHI St. Alexius Health manages four CAHs in North Dakota - Elgin, Linton, and Wishek, as well as Mobridge Regional Medical Center in Mobridge, S.D. The Senior Informaticist applies clinical and informatics knowledge and expertise, critical thinking, and leadership skills to facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to promote quality care.  The position works collaboratively with diverse teams (i.e. Operations, Information Technology, Epic AMS, etc) at multiple levels of the organization to achieve the system objectives. In addition, the position assists the customer in areas of evaluating, planning, and implementing strategies for the EMR along with other applications. The position may be responsible for performing the planning, development, and testing of new Epic functionality to include the technical build.  The position may also provide application training and coordination as well as support end users during Implementation and Go-Live events via on-site and remote support.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Leads system analysis, design, implementation and evaluation of clinical applications. Leads customer acceptance level testing of new or enhanced software prior to productive use. Assist with implementation efforts related to organizational needs including workflow process integration. Coordinates evaluation of new technology devices, testing of device utilization and provides training and support of workflow incorporating new device.
  2. Leads assigned informatics projects such as: new EMR functionality, creating or adjusting workflows with the EMR. Leads and coordinates EMR optimization activities and adheres to prescribed methodologies for new requests and change management.
  3. Provides online virtual or instructor led classes for new hires as well as new or enhanced software functionality to impacted staff. Follows educational materials for training sessions and provides input on changes.
  4. Coordinates organizational training needs for the EMR including the development of training schedule for new hires and existing staff; assignment of training resources; review of new or updated training materials; and monitoring of training environments.
  5. Performs testing of new optimization requests prior to move to production to identify defects and ensure that solution meets intent of request.
  6. Collaborates with Epic AMS or Epic National team on researching and resolving identified break-fix items.
  7. Engaged in an annual project focused on adding enhanced functionality and/or creating end user efficiency that generates a positive return on investment for the organization.
  8. Remains proficient in the use of all Catholic Health Initiatives Health specific applications that are supported by the Clinical Informatics Department. Maintains accurate documentation with in the Incident Management System to include a clear description of the problem, the steps utilized in problem solving, and a description of the final solution.
  9. Participates in assigned committees or workgroups to serve as an Informatics resource.
  10. Other duties as assigned by management.




Required Education for Staff Job Levels

Four-year clinical degree or equivalent

Required Licensure and Certifications

Epic Certification in primary module within one year of hire.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum of 2 years of Informatics experience

Ability to adapt to new or changing environments

Strong critical thinking skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience with large, diverse projects including planning, facilitating, and implementation

PREFERRED Qualifications

Epic Proficiency in one or more modules within one year of hire

Master’s Degree in Nursing, Informatics, or other clinical area

Informatics training
