CHI St. Alexius Health officially announced the formation of its regional health care system on April 19, 2016. The system is the largest health care delivery system in central and western North Dakota and is comprised of a tertiary hospital in Bismarck, and critical access hospitals (CAHs) in Carrington, Dickinson, Devils Lake, Garrison, Turtle Lake, Washburn and Williston and numerous clinics and outpatient services. CHI St. Alexius Health manages five CAHs in North Dakota - Ashley, Elgin, Linton, and Wishek, as well as Mobridge Regional Medical Center in Mobridge, S.D.     


Responsibilities

Works under the supervision of the Clinical Coordinator. The Team Leader assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and supervises patient care on a nursing unit according to policies and procedures while maintaining standards of the state Nurse Practice Act. The Team Leader assists in the day to day planning, organization, and directing. All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to the policies, procedures and guidelines of the Medical Center.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable for all Registered Nurse duties and responsibilities as well as the following duties and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of unit standards of care, staff competencies, and individual patient care needs in facilitation proper patient placement and patient care assignments.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, including care coordination, physicians, and management, using and promoting effective communication strategies to meet inter-and intra-departmental needs.
  • Actively role models and coaches the behaviors associated with leadership and assist others in developing their skills and knowledge.
  • Successfully completes the defined job specific competencies, including competencies for age specific, as appropriate
  • Adheres to St. Alexius Medical Center mission, values, and Journey Beyond Excellence expectations to foster a compassionate, healing environment providing physiological, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and visitors.
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to St. Alexius Medical Center policies, philosophies and standards of care regulated by ND State Board of Nursing, the ND nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations
  • Utilizes the nursing process, including planning, assessment, intervention, and evaluation, to develop and implement a comprehensive plan of care for the patient and family focused on optimal patient outcomes,
  • Meets the educational needs of patient/family/co-workers utilizing principles and current professional literature to achieve positive learning outcomes. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Delegates nursing care with respect based on knowledge of staff qualifications/competencies and individual patient care needs.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, mediation administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records following HIPAA regulations and St. Alexius Medical Center policy.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in multidisciplinary problem-solving

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education: Nursing degree from an approved school of nursing; BSN preferred

Licensure: Licensed to practice professional nursing in the state of North Dakota.
Experience: At least two (2) years clinical experience within specialty area preferredSkills:  Demonstrates ability to organize personnel assignments and activities for others for the overall benefit of the unit.  Working knowledge of clinical skills in delivery of patient care. Demonstrates proficiency in unit and the ability to function efficiently during crisis. Basic Life Support Certification within 480 hours of employment and meets re-certification as required.
Interpersonal Skills:  Excellent communication skills and demonstrated leadership abilities are necessary because of the constant communications, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors, and medical center staff.  Accountable for own conduct and promotes and supports positive working relationships among staff, between other disciplines, departments, families, visitors and patients.  Maintains confidentiality

Physical Effort:  Medium: Involves a maximum physical effort requirement of 50 pounds sometimes.  35 lbs light medium work level with floor to waist lifting.   50 lbs medium work level with knee to waist lifting.
Hours of Work: Days. No nights, no weekends.

Non-Exempt/Exempt

Other: Works under the following conditions: potential exposure to mechanical, chemical, electrical and infectious environmental hazards.
