BLS, ACLS Must-Have: PCU experience, ability to read cardiac strips
Description: The position requires experience in a Med/Tele/PCU
environment. The unit has a total of 32 beds. Nurse-to-patient
ratios are 1:4-5, with occasional ratios of 5-6 during night
shifts. PCU level care overflow is typically managed with a ratio
of 1:3. Common diagnoses include adults and geriatrics with cardiac
issues, alcohol withdrawal, COVID-19 cases requiring BiPAP, and
other medical patients with chronic conditions. RN must be
proficient in tele/cardiac care, have experience with titrating IV
drips, and the ability to read and interpret cardiac strips. Common
titratable and fixed-rate drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem,
Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, and Lasix. Charge nurses are present on
each shift and may take a light patient load of 2-3 patients.
Patient care techs are available with a goal of 1:10 ratios. RNs
are required to troubleshoot respiratory equipment, including BiPAP
and high-flow oxygen. Telemetry and monitor technicians are present
in the unit, with portable monitors available. Nurses are
responsible for reading their own cardiac strips. Shifts include 7
a.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Rotating shifts will not occur
more than weekly, and weekend requirements are every other weekend.
Holidays are also required every other holiday. Floating to other
areas may be necessary to assist with patient care. There is no
specific dress code requirement for scrubs. The unit will provide a
total of 2 shifts of department-specific orientation. Candidates
must be 50 miles from the area to be considered. Time off requests
must be submitted upfront, and additional requests will not be
approved after the initial submission. There is a cancellation
policy of 4 shifts per 13-week contract. The charting system used
is EPIC. A BSN is not required for this position. This is an acute
care setting within the nursing division. Candidates should possess
the required certifications of BLS and ACLS. 5 Benefits of Travel
