ACLS Must-Have: PCU experience and ability to read strips
Description: Department: Med/Tele RN. Unit has 32 beds. Nurse to
patient ratios are 1:4-5, with occasional 5-6 on nights. PCU level
care overflow on the unit is 1:3. Common diagnoses and types of
patients include adults and geriatrics with cardiac conditions,
ETOH, and Covid. Patients may include those with pneumonia, acute
on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis. Tele/cardiac RNs are
preferred with PCU experience. Epic knowledge is preferred but
first-time travelers are welcome. RNs are required to titrate
drips, including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, and
Lasix. No Levophed is required. Each shift has a Charge Nurse who
may occasionally take a light load of 2-3 patients. There are nurse
aids or patient care techs with a goal ratio of 1:10. RNs will
troubleshoot equipment such as Bipap, trachs, and Airvo. RNs are
required to read and interpret their own strips. Shift patterns
include 7a-7p and 7p-7a. Weekend work is required every other week.
Holiday work is also required every other year. There are no call
or standby requirements. Floating is required to all areas as
helping hands. RNs may float to full patient loads in PCU and MS,
with some responsibilities in ER for holds or boarding. Scrubs in
any color are permitted. There are 2 shifts of unit-specific
orientation. This unit emphasizes tele/cardiac care. Radius rule is
50 miles. Additional time off beyond 7 days per 13-week contract is
not approved. Cancellation policy includes 4 shifts per contract,
or 3 shifts if the contract is under 13 weeks. Charting system used
is Epic. BSN is not required. Trauma level is 2. Care setting is
acute. Division is nursing. Shift notes indicate every other
weekend and first to float status. Required certifications are ACLS
