Job Description:
Bismarck Public Schools is seeking an Automotive Technology
Instructor to teach Automotive Technology courses at the Career
Academy & Technical Center. This position provides hands-on,
industry aligned instruction designed to prepare students for
entry-level employment, postsecondary education, or advanced
training in automotive technology. This position will start August
14th, 2026. New Teacher Orientation will be held August 11th, 12th
and 13th. Position Type: Full-time, benefited position aligned to
the school calendar (9-month academic year). A teaching contract is
187 days. Location: BPS Technical Center Essential Duties and
Responsibilities Teach Automotive Technology courses, including
Automotive Technology I and II. Provide instruction in areas such
as engine diagnostics, electrical/electronic systems, brakes, HVAC,
suspension and steering, drivetrain, and automotive safety. Deliver
instruction in a hands-on automotive lab environment using
industry-aligned practices. Maintain a safe, organized, and
instructionally effective shop and classroom. Supervise and assess
student work on program and student vehicles in accordance with
course and safety guidelines. Integrate career-ready practices,
employability skills, and professional standards into daily
instruction. Support student participation in SkillsUSA and other
career-connected learning opportunities. Develop and maintain
curriculum aligned to ASE standards and district expectations.
Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and
administrators. Collaborate with CTE staff, counselors, and
administrators to support student success. Participate in
professional development and school/district initiatives as
required Instructional Environment Courses are taught on a block
schedule. Instruction is primarily hands-on and lab-based with
supplemental classroom instruction. Students work individually and
collaboratively on real-world automotive tasks and diagnostics.
Qualifications Required: North Dakota CTE teaching license or
eligibility to obtain licensure (district support available).
Background in automotive maintenance and light repair. Ability to
work effectively with high school students in a technical, hands-on
learning environment. Commitment to maintaining a safe
instructional setting. Preferred: ASE certification(s) or
experience working in ASE-certified automotive programs or repair
facilities. Experience mentoring, training, or supervising youth or
young adults. Experience integrating industry standards into
instructional practice. Willingness to develop partnerships with
industry and postsecondary institutions. Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities Strong technical knowledge of automotive systems and
diagnostics. Effective classroom and lab management skills
(district support available). Ability to build positive
relationships with students. Strong communication and
organizational skills. Flexibility and willingness to adapt
instruction to meet diverse learner needs. Additional Information
The Automotive Technology program is an ASE-aligned program
delivered in a fully equipped automotive lab. Students are
encouraged to enroll in a two-year sequence and participate in
SkillsUSA. Candidates with industry experience who are interested
in transitioning into teaching are strongly encouraged to
