The Nutrition Education Assistant, Expanded Food and Nutrition
Education Program (EFNEP), will work collaboratively with a team of
Extension professionals and other agencies and organizations to
teach youth and adults about food and nutrition-related subject
matter. This program targets individuals from households with low
income in Sioux County. This position may be filled with either 0.8
to 1.0 FTE (employee choice at time of hire) with NDSU Extension,
contingent on the availability of federal funds to support the
program. This position is in the NDSU Extension Sioux County
office, located in Fort Yates, ND.
This position includes, but is not limited to, the following
responsibilities:
* Conduct lessons on nutrition, food safety and food
purchasing.
* Recruit and enroll eligible families with young children.
* Teach food and nutrition-related subject matter to youth from low
income households.
* Identify food and nutrition related needs of program participants
and coordinate educational experiences to meet those needs.
* Evaluate participants' progress.
* Maintain and submit accurate EFNEP records on a timely basis.
* Encourage families to utilize assistance provided through
community services and federal food assistance programs.
* Cooperate with other Extension staff members in developing
linkages with EFNEP to other Extension programs and government
agencies.
* Develop partnerships with local community groups for program
outreach

Location:
This position is in the NDSU Extension Sioux County office, located
in Fort Yates, ND. Sioux County lies entirely within the Standing
Rock Indian Reservation and home to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe
and the Lakota and Dakota nations. With a population of 3,898
people and a total area of 1,128 square miles, Sioux County is
situated along the southern border of North Dakota along the
western shore of the Missouri River. Fort Yates, the county's
largest city, is located approximately 60 miles south of the
Bismarck-Mandan metropolitan area and 50 miles north of Mobridge,
SD. Bismarck, North Dakota's second largest city with a population
of approximately 75,000 people, is a regional retail center and
home to the Bismarck Municipal Airport. Sioux County includes a
mixture of cropland and grasslands, and is characterized by
picturesque rolling hills and buttes. Sioux County is the perfect
fit for somebody who enjoys a rural lifestyle and the personal
connections that come with small communities.
This position is in the NDSU Extension Sioux County office, located
in Fort Yates, ND. Sioux County lies entirely within the Standing

Work Schedule:
* Monday through Friday
* 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility
* Some weekend and evening work required
Advertised Salary:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
* High school diploma or GED with two years of related work
experience or Associate's degree.
* Demonstrated communication skills - oral, written, listening.
* Evidence of experience in keeping accurate and complete
records.
* Demonstrated experience in organizing work and working
independently.
* Familiarity with various ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, an
interest and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds,
and a commitment to the principles of diversity.
* Basic skills with Microsoft Office computer software.
* Personal vehicle for regular use, valid driver's license and auto
insurance.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Related work experience in food and nutrition education.
* Demonstrated work or volunteer experience with limited resource
families.
* Leadership and/or teaching experience.
* Knowledge of area and existing community services.
* Relevant work experience with American Indian/Alaska Native
populations
